Australian open betting is the first serious tennis decision of the year, and for most of the off-season it is guesswork. The 2027 tournament gives that guesswork a deadline: the singles draw is made during Opening Week, 11 to 16 January, and from that moment every player's route through Melbourne Park is fixed. The main draw starts on Sunday 17 January and the singles finals fall on 30 and 31 January. Two weeks, 127 matches in each singles draw, and a price on every one of them.

The whole event runs at Melbourne Park. Opening Week has grown from a qualifying week into a programme of its own, but for a bettor its job is narrower: it produces the draw and the last 16 names in each singles field.

How the 128-player draw is built

Each singles draw has 128 places. The Australian Open fills 104 of them with direct entrants by ranking, 16 with players who come through qualifying and 8 with wildcards chosen by the organisers. Thirty-two players are seeded.

The seeds are placed in fixed sections. The first and second seeds go to opposite halves, the third and fourth are drawn into the remaining quarters, the fifth to eighth into the eighths, and so on down to seed 32. The effect is a protected path: two seeds cannot meet before the third round, the top eight cannot meet each other before the quarter-finals, and the top two only in the final. Everyone else is placed at random by computer.

For australian open betting this protection is what makes the draw day matter so much. The seeding decides how strong a player's section can be at most; the random placement of the unseeded players decides how strong it actually is. A top seed drawn into a section with a dangerous unseeded former champion faces a harder week than the ranking suggests, and the outright price moves accordingly within minutes of the draw.

Formats: best of five and best of three

Men's singles is best of five sets, women's singles best of three. In both, a deciding set that reaches six games all is settled by a 10-point tiebreak, first to ten with a two-point lead. Earlier sets use the standard seven-point tiebreak.

Format changes markets more than most bettors allow for:

  • Upsets. Best of five gives the stronger player more time to recover from a slow start, so men's favourites tend to be shorter than women's favourites of similar standing.
  • Set betting. A men's match has six exact set scores, 3–0, 3–1 or 3–2 either way; a women's match has four. More outcomes mean wider margins on the men's set market.
  • Total games. The deciding-set tiebreak caps how long a final set can run, which keeps the upper end of total-games lines within reach of a sensible estimate.

Match, game and set markets with the arithmetic

On a single match the main lines are head-to-head, set betting, the game handicap and total games. Suppose a seed is priced at 1.30 and the opponent at 3.75, example prices only. The implied chances are 76.9% and 26.7%, a book of 103.6%, so roughly 3.5% of the money on both sides is the margin.

The game handicap is where uneven matches become playable. A favourite at −4.5 games wins the bet only by taking at least five more games than the opponent across the match; a 7–6, 7–6 win in straight sets does not cover. Read the line together with the format: −4.5 games is a different proposition over three sets than over five.

Retirements are the rule to check before anything else. Tennis is one of the few sports where a match can end early with no winner by play, and sportsbooks differ: some settle a match bet once a set is complete, others void anything short of a finished match. The tennis section of each book's terms says which.

In-play tennis prices move on every point. If you prefer to bet between games, compare in-play crypto betting sites before the tournament rather than during a fifth set.

Outrights, sections and staking in crypto

Outright markets come in several cuts: tournament winner, to reach the final, and quarter winner, which pays on the player who emerges from one eighth of the draw. An illustrative women's board after the draw, our estimate only: the top two names between 3.50 and 6.00, a cluster from 8.00 to 20.00, and every unseeded player at 100.00 or longer.

A two-week outright is a short position by the standards of a football season, which makes the coin less of an issue than in long markets. Even so, a stake placed in a volatile coin on 17 January is paid at that coin's value on 31 January. Stablecoin balances remove the doubt; bettors who keep coin balances for quick deposits can compare Solana betting sites with the other networks. Our view on draw day

This is opinion, not a tip. In our reading, the best value in australian open betting tends to sit in the quarter-winner markets right after the draw, before the press coverage of a “section of death” pushes its seeds out and its unseeded threats in. The outright, by contrast, usually overreacts to the first round: a favourite who drops a set on day one is often a better price on Tuesday than on Sunday, though not a better player. Our estimate is that the men's outright will again be the more concentrated board, because five-set matches let the strongest players absorb a bad day.

Before the first serve

Two weeks of tennis means hundreds of markets a day early on, and that volume makes a budget more useful than a hunch. Set one for the fortnight and use the deposit limits and support pages if it starts to slip. When is the 2027 Australian Open?
From 11 to 31 January 2027 at Melbourne Park. Opening Week, with qualifying and the draw, runs from 11 to 16 January; the main draw starts on Sunday 17 January; the singles finals are on 30 and 31 January.
How big is the singles draw?
Each singles draw has 128 players: 104 direct entrants by ranking, 16 qualifiers and 8 wildcards. Thirty-two are seeded, so the strongest players cannot meet before the third round.
Are men's and women's matches the same length?
No. Men's singles is best of five sets, women's singles best of three. In both, a deciding set that reaches six games all is settled by a 10-point tiebreak.
When should I start australian open betting on the outright?
Prices exist months ahead, but the most useful moment is the draw during Opening Week. Once the bracket is fixed, each player's path is known and the outright stops being a guess about who they might face.
What happens to my bet if a player retires injured?
That depends on the sportsbook. Some void a match bet unless the match is completed, others settle it once a set has been played. The rule sits in each book's tennis terms; read it before you bet on a player carrying an injury.
